LEICESTER MODELLERS

The forward thinking Hobby Group

Here's some of the important stuff

Leicester Modellers now have a large footprint via Facebook
and we have an ever expanding range of pages Exclusive to Members

About Us

Leicester Modellers have been around the hobby for over 40 years and we have been based in Wigston, Leics UK since 1996. We are as much a group of friends as much as we share an interest in this diverse Hobby. The advent of our Facebook page has widened our appeal and brought us new members and friends.

We are an Independent Model Club and
many of our members are also part of the IPMS and/or MAFVA and Other Model Hobby Groups.

Predominantly comprised of Armour Modellers but with an increased variety of Aircraft, Figure and Fantasy Modellers joining the fold. We also visit and display at several Shows across the Midlands each year and are well known across the Model Making community with close links to many other Clubs.

Members range widely from the more local: Towns and Boroughs to others who are scattered across the surrounding Counties of the Midlands along with several from London & Home Counties, Yorkshire, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Eire and whilst it is clearly not practical for those to attend regularly, we are sure they would attend if they could or meet up with us at the Shows. We are pleased to say that we have been fortunate to add remote members from Overseas.

Members Facebook Page .... To Join you MUST be a Modeller and you MUST answer ALL the questions
  • Yes/No is not an answer
  • We do check your Page for eligibilty as a modeller.
  • If you are NOT a modeller, don't even try to join.
  • Please DO NOT INVITE others, but let them know so they can choose for themselves.
Meetings are held regularly on the 2nd Saturday of each Calendar Month, from 6pm until you've had enough ...

  • NO Committee - we are a social bunch
  • NO Agenda - other than to promote Model Making
  • NO Membership Fees - bring a few cakes or snack to go with the Tea & Coffee
  • NO Smoking - it is someones Home
  • WE WILL - Discuss a wide range of subjects, especially Model Making
  • WE WILL - Look at your latest Builds and Buys, so bring your latest project along
  • WE WILL - Freely gives and receive advice without any strings attached
  • WE HAVE - A wide range of Knowledge, Experience and Reference Material
Our 'BUILD CLUB' has proven extremely popular with members where a few of us meet on the 1st & 3rd Saturday's and the 2nd & 4th Tuesday's between 1pm and 5pm to actually build models.

If you have difficulty concentrating at home, maybe we can help:
  • WITH - 1:1 guidance, help and advice
  • WITH - the use of specialist equipment
  • WITH - access to reference materials
  • WITH - peace and quiet for those 'small part moments'

let's be helpful out there!

There is an organisation which supports or Nations Veterans and Emergency Service Workers called
Models for Heroes (M4H)
Picture
Click this image to link to their website
This organisation supports therapy by way of the community of model makers/builders in donating kits and physical support to assist the trials and stresses during their rehabilitation and recovery.
The hobby has a way of allowing participants to focus their thoughts elsewhere whilst doing something positive. This in and of itself can be a breakthrough moment.

guidelines for Modellers:

  • ensure you have at least 3 times more stash kits too hand than you think you'll need
  • plenty of Glue, SuperGlue, Filler, Sanding Sticks etc
  • enough Swann Morton blades for your needs
  • adequate stocks of Tea/Coffee and biscuits
  • Soap - washing your hands frequently helps to stop your model getting greasy
  • post your builds on the Club page so we can all see remotely what's on the bench
Check out our Facebook page.
Please answer all 3 Questions honestly.

Remember to take regular breaks, you NEED food and drink otherwise, you may not get to finish that model!

HOWEVER! Spending too much time at the workbench can have a serious side-effect!
